Quartieri Spagnoli is a part of the city of Naples in Italy. The Neapolitan language is stronger here than anywhere else. It is a poor area, suffering from high unemployment and strong influence of Camorra. The area, encompassing c. 800,000 square metres, consists of a grid of around eighteen streets by twelve, including a population of some 14,000 inhabitants. The Quartieri' were created in the 16th to house Spanish garrisons, hence the name, whose role was to quench revolts from the Neapolitan population. Soon they became an infamous quarter with a high rate of criminality and prostitution. The area has among the highest rates of respiratory diseases, unemployment and youth crime in Europe. The housing in the Quartieri Spagnoli consists usually six storied blocks with a roof terrace and a central courtyard. The width of the average street is about 3 metres.Among the historic churches in the district are: Church of the Immacolata Concezione e Purificazione di Maria de' nobili in Montecalvario Church of San Carlo alle Mortelle Church of San Mattia Church of Santa Maria della Concezione a Montecalvario Church of Santa Maria della Lettera Church of Santa Maria della Mercede a Montecalvario Church of Santa Maria Francesca delle Cinque Piaghe Church of Sant'Anna di Palazzo Church of Santa Maria del Rosario a Portamedina Church of Santa Maria della Concordia Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie a Toledo Convent and church of Santa Maria dello Splendore Church of Santa Maria Ognibene Church of Santa Teresella degli Spagnoli Church of the Trinità dei Pellegrini Church of the Santissima Trinità degli Spagnoli

  • Of Naples can talk good or bad, there is no half measure. Behold, the Spanish quarters probably summed up the gloom of this city. Some might say that are characteristic, honestly did in 100 meters and couldn't wait to get to a minimum of piazzetta or metro station. Unlike other areas of Naples, this did not affect us for no security

  • They are safer and assured of so-called residential neighborhoods. When I was young the word "neighborhoods" evoked a sense, not even so much sheer, of sin. Today I am a route from boarders; the only problem maybe are scooters; but muggings and robberies are now almost a reminder (are more frequent in Vomero) and also the "sin" has moved elsewhere and also speak other languages. It remains a place of folklore that may interest tourists who read guides or reviews published after the war.

  • Unique and suggestive places, give a unique experience that combines the view of popular culture beauty that characterizes them. Look at the painting garage doors
