Pio Monte della Misericordia, Naples

(4.5/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Famous for its collection of artwork, Pio Monte della Misericordia houses a museum, library, and art gallery. The 17th-century church features white marble halls and ornate decoration. The exposed altar showcases perhaps the church's most famed piece, Caravaggio's "Seven Acts of Mercy." The side chapels include more paintings from Caravaggio, along with the works by Santafede, Giordana, and D'Onofrio. Adjacent to the museum is a picture gallery filled with more art, refreshingly non-museum in presentation. Upstairs, a small exhibit draws parallels between the works in the chapel and those in the gallery. • I am surprised to find this magnificent Museum out of the top 10 of this ranking. Already I was surprised your visit the low influx of tourists (better!). Perhaps what is called here a "hidden gem", but without a doubt is a small Palace and Church brutal with one of the summits of the Baroque and of course the masterpiece of Caravaggio.

  • We brought friends to see Caravaggio and others. A place to discover and appreciate. Deserves more. Absolutely among the obligatory stops of Naples to see

  • On via dei Tribunali, in front of the so-called Lily of St. Gennaro, opens the Palace of charity, created in 1602 by seven Neapolitan nobles. The mount is famous because it houses the circular Church, works of mercy, one of the most beautiful, mature works of Caravaggio, in the Church and in the above first floor of the building, there are other valuable Baroque operas (Vaccaro, Stanzione, Giordano, Santafede etc.). Especially the small Hall of the Deputation, with its distinctive circular table of managers.

  • Worth the visit to know more about Caravagio the Painter. So few explanations in English.
  • One path of cultural and spiritual enrichment. The representation of the corporal works of mercy is valuable feedback with the apogee in Caravaggio. Beautiful upstairs the Museum with historical documents, the works Of Rubba, a rare self-portrait of Luca Giordano, vestments, chalices, monstrances and other. Also notable is the temporary exhibition. A rare plus, very significant, is that "give drink to the thirsty". At the entrance, visitors, bottles of mineral water. Discreet personnel, never oppressive but attentive.

  • Lovely Caravaggio "The 7 works of mercy". A truly spectacular picture not to be missed. Included in the entrance price there is also a visit to the gallery where you can admire paintings of minor authors!!!

  • Pio Monte della Misericordia began as a charity in ' 600 by some young Neapolitan nobles and continues his work. It is possible to visit the picture gallery and the Church. Here you can admire the beautiful paintings by Caravaggio representing the seven works of mercy. Peculiar is the table where sat the Heptagonal Government founders.
