Pio Monte della Misericordia, Naples

4.5
Famous for its collection of artwork, Pio Monte della Misericordia houses a museum, library, and art gallery. The 17th-century church features white marble halls and ornate decoration. The exposed altar showcases perhaps the church's most famed piece, Caravaggio's "Seven Acts of Mercy." The side chapels include more paintings from Caravaggio, along with the works by Santafede, Giordana, and D'Onofrio. Adjacent to the museum is a picture gallery filled with more art, refreshingly non-museum in presentation. Upstairs, a small exhibit draws parallels between the works in the chapel and those in the gallery. • Fascinating place. Visiting obviously deserves just for the work of Caravaggio, but also the picture gallery upstairs reveals valuable treasures.

  • Outstanding collection of artworks.
  • Worth the visit to know more about Caravagio the Painter. So few explanations in English.
  • l Pio Monte, always along the same Mercy suspending way beyond via Duomo and from the castel Capuano, civil institution of jurisdiction since the days of the Spanish Viceroy, is a clot, a 17th-century Neapolitan Rococo, a collection of what the Reformation began as a rule, the Protestants want the empty churches, and we Catholics as we can? heirs of a pagan who posed of anywhere, the outdoors, North dark you were locked up in churches and sang, but here the heart of life is necessary to show it, and so was the master Michelangelo, but the others were not to be outdone, even here in this pious institution.

  • One path of cultural and spiritual enrichment. The representation of the corporal works of mercy is valuable feedback with the apogee in Caravaggio. Beautiful upstairs the Museum with historical documents, the works Of Rubba, a rare self-portrait of Luca Giordano, vestments, chalices, monstrances and other. Also notable is the temporary exhibition. A rare plus, very significant, is that "give drink to the thirsty". At the entrance, visitors, bottles of mineral water. Discreet personnel, never oppressive but attentive.

Naples' lodging options include everything from turn-of-the-century historical mansions to hip boutique hotels. For a five-star experience in the heart of town, book a centrally located luxury hotel. Less expensive but just as comfortable, traditional inns just outside the central area offer peaceful comfort, private parking, and private outdoor space ideal for quiet dinners and small parties. If you are looking for a less urban experience and prefer to stay in a leafy neighborhood, consider the city's residential suburbs.
