  • Plaza of relevance where converge Via Toledo, Via Chiaia Via San Carlo i. It is of irregular shape. Is presided over by the Church of San Ferdinando (Fernando). The fountain of the artichoke is located in the center of it. It is also the main access to the famous Pl. Plebiscito, like at the theatre San Carlos and the Royal Palace

  • Around Piazza Trieste e Trento there is a part of the history of this town that don't forget was 600 and 800 in the late half of the capital of a Kingdom, cited for its natural and architectural beauty as one of the most coveted capital cities to be visited by the good society and the nobles of European monarchies. Around piazza Trieste e Trento in addition to the most impressive monuments such as the Palazzo Reale, the guest at the sides of the Church of San Francesco da Paola, the latter built as a vow from Ferdinando of Bourbon for his return to Naples after the expulsion of the French, the Church of San Ferdinando famous for its good Friday rites, Via Toledo defined by Stendhal the most crowded of the universe (we're around 1817) and finally the Real Teatro di San Carlo defined textually from the same Stendhal: there is nothing in the whole of Europe, which does not say is close to this theater, but give a clue. Finally next to these monuments cannot fail to recall the Caffè Gambrinus founded in 1860 and now haunt of artists, political writers and composers. From this square right next to the Caffè Gambrinus do you leave for the subterranean Naples. We come now to the title of my review: because an Artichoke in a square. It is my opinion that the artist wanted to give an allegorical meaning in this representation, the artichoke is bitter and probably remembering the story he wanted to recall the bitter pill that this city had to swallow with the invasion of Piedmont, from capital of a Kingdom found itself relegated to any city in the Kingdom but the then Government did everything he could to demean and watering down the greatness that this city had had over the centuries. Despite this snub for, when there was the referendum between monarchy and Republic Neapolitans were alongside the Savoy monarchy that had so outraged Naples.

  • Around this square vasculan some of the most important places of Naples. We can see the theatre of San Carlo, Piazza Plebiscito, the beginning of Via Toledo, etc. Is an area that connects with the main places of Naples. Also, in your Center is located the Fontana of the Carciofo or of the artichoke, very peculiar and very beautiful. Is in the plaza where there is also one of the oldest and most well known city business: Cafe Gambrinus. Take your time to see across the square and to assess every point of view that gives you.
