  • A jump in the history of the train, in a scenario close to the sea, overlooking the Bay of the town ... not to be missed!

  • You notice various environments like industrial warehouses, located in close proximity to a Sea Cliff at Portici. Entering the first on the left you will find so many trains in Park, all different from each other and represent the various epochs of this means of transport. It is often used for events, trade fairs and Exhibitions.

  • Long time since I programmed a visit to this Museum, which is exhibiting a collection of media that have marked the history of the railways, is a site of historical importance as it was one of the major plants for the manufacture of railway equipment. Strongly backed by King Ferdinand of Bourbon According to the increase of railway lines, Pietrarsa was born in 1840 to give substance to the dream of King Ferdinando to create a functional railway network to improve commercial links from the sea within his Kingdom. Pietrarsa workshops will have high production capacity and technology to attract the interest of many rulers of the time, the same Tsar Nicholas I wanted it to be made of a plant in Russia by copying the pietrarsa site machinery arrangement. Pietrarsa decline will occur in parallel with the unification of Italy and in consequence of the shift of the main strategic activity in Northern Italy. After numerous and even bloody vicissitudes Pietrarsa will regain his ransom in 1877, returning to the State management, under the direction of Ing. Dionisio Pal and its workshops will come out in later years numerosie locomotives, wagons and carriages and other rolling stock. After the war, with the advent of electric and diesel will see the rapid decline of pietrarsa, which until 1966 will take care of the maintenance of steam locomotives, the latter of which the GR 640-088 that the 15 November 1975 will leave the pietrarsa plant which will be designed to function as a museum. Many things have changed since 1975 and finally to the present day we have a splendid location dedicated to the history of the train and railways generally, with a significant presence of foreign and Italian locomotives, of special equipment such as the Royal train and many other curiosities all related to the world of the railway tracks that have always made us dream big and small. Just talking about the dreams of children and adults in Hall G plastic Trecentotreni along the famous 18 metres and a width of more than 2. Your visit to Pietrarsa is definitely a pleasant and unforgettable experience for young and old, experience even more compelling if you reach the website with historical train drawn by a pair of Eurostar city and Chandra E626 electric locomotives. Upon arrival, already the only suggestion of site, pleasantly overlooking the cliffs of the Gulf of Naples, between the sea and Mount Vesuvius, with the beautiful view of Naples and the island of Capri. Since the departure from Naples Central train station with historic train, I got to check out the professionalism and friendliness of the staff of the Foundation Worldwide FS, we were greeted and accompanied with kindness and complete information, advice on how and what to do. Once you arrive at the station of Pietrarsa we were greeted by the staff of the Museum with equal kindness pointed out the possibilities and then accompanied (according to me highly recommended) guided tour of mueo. Particularly interesting is the virtual tour of locomotive Bayard and its carriages, highly effective and very impressive. In conclusion I acknowledge a great credit to the current management of the Museum of Pietrarsa, the results of the restructuring themselves and I am sure if the conduct, as site service, remain those of the standard that I have personally had the opportunity to appreciate, the results and the numbers will become very important.

  • Great train museum! Lots of history and machines here! I really enjoyed this-
  • Amazing place for fans of trains
  • Wanderfull location
  • Unique place for breathtaking landscapes and steeped in history. Here was born the first railroad of the boot by the Bourbons with then ex-factory of Pietrarsa among the most advanced in Europe. Newly renovated Museum worthy of any European capital as it deserves the city of Naples. Magic place for young and old. Not to be missed for no reason at all the 3D movie about the history of locomotive Bayard

  • Absolutely the most beautiful Railway Museum of Italy. The recent restoration has restored lustre. Beautiful videos on the operation of steam locomotives (the second on the first railway is a bit too self-indulgent!) FS has made a masterpiece of image this time. Beautiful also the scenery with the view of Naples from the sea.

Where to stay in Naples

Naples' lodging options include everything from turn-of-the-century historical mansions to hip boutique hotels. For a five-star experience in the heart of town, book a centrally located luxury hotel. Less expensive but just as comfortable, traditional inns just outside the central area offer peaceful comfort, private parking, and private outdoor space ideal for quiet dinners and small parties. If you are looking for a less urban experience and prefer to stay in a leafy neighborhood, consider the city's residential suburbs.
