  • It is a museum that has an incredibly unfortunate story behind: World War II deprived him of much of his collection of masterpieces by famous painters (for example, there was one of the many "crucifixion" by Van Dyck-another is found in Capodimonte-and a "portrait of a man" by Botticelli, the latter being one of the very few artists who alone draws the crowds Therefore, if this painting he survived, this museum would have avoided all these decades troubled, I'm sure). However, what is left deserves to be admired (for example, "the head of John the Baptist" from Ribera is literally mesmerizing). Finally, I deserved Kudos to the impeccable management of salt, maybe all public museums Neapolitans were kept the same way ...

  • This jewel of art and culture has been returned to the city and its visitors only in recent years; in may 2012, in fact, the Museum has reopened after 13 years of closure and in 2013 the Association was born we save the Museo Filangieri ONLUS promotes and supports the Museum in all its activities. The Museum is located in the 15th century Palazzo Como; his collection boasts more than 3,000 objects, from various backgrounds and dating. Is collected specimens of applied arts (ceramics, porcelain, Bisque, ivories, weapons), paintings and sculptures from the 16th to the 19th century and even a library with approximately 30,000 volumes and an archive with documents from the 13th to the 19th century. In the 17th century Neapolitan paintings many paintings, including works by Jusepe de Ribera, Luca Giordano, Andrea Vaccaro, Battistello Caracciolo, Mattia Preti. The design and construction of the Museum are by Gaetano Filangieri, Prince of Satriano, who in 1881 he thought to bring all of its art collections in what remained of the famous Palazzo Como. In 1883 work began to rebuild and restore the mansion, fully funded by Prince, which was completed in 1888. In November of that year the Museum was opened to the public.
