Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli
Delve into Italy's diverse history at Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli. Considered the most important archeological museum in Italy, it boasts a collection of Greek, Roman, and Renaissance antiquities housed in a 16th-century palace. Admire the dozens of intricately-made pieces in the mosaic collection, or visit the museum's Secret Cabinet to see hundreds of Roman artifacts from the site of Pompeii. Pick up an audio guide at the entrance to learn more about the specific pieces, as well as Pompeii's history. Plan your visit to Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Naples online route planner.

If you visit Pompeii and/or Herculaneum, you must come here as most of the frescos, mosaics, etc. were removed from Pompeii to here. (Many items from Herculaneum it appears, were left in situ which... more »

Depending on your interest, you can stay as long as 3-4h. The museum is huge and covers all the History periods. There are more interesting parts, like the Greek/Roman Age for me, but there is much... more »

Beautiful structure, very impressive and has a nice cafe (very affordable) you can rest there between going to different exhibitions. As said before you should look at the timetable for each exhibition in the museum so you will not be disappointed. The artifacts from Pompeii, secret room and mosaics were amazing. The Audio guide doesn't cover everything and most of the things have Italian description (as said in other reviews) . The maintenance is very poor though and the walls are dirty , the showcases are dusty and the toilet facilities are in bad condition. Enjoy!

Quite a Grand building and beautiful architecture! Also the different rooms are stunning with their elegant design. However it's not 5 stars worthy, because it lacks the wholeness of the audio tour. There are not many items which can be used with the audio device.

This place has so much history and it’s hard to see everything this place has to offer in just one day. It can get really hot in there, though, as they do not have air conditioning. They are just a short walk from the train station/metro and they have some restaurant options nearby. I believe the price was reasonable to get in especially if you’re in interested in this sort of thing.

What a beautiful experience. I can definitely recommend taking a good two hours to roam around the Museum and take in the archeological findings. Most of the descriptions have an English section, but not all. So if possible, try do an audio guided tour. In hindsight, I should've, in order to get more information whilst roaming around. If you're not interested in finding out all the details, just walking in and amongst the preserved history of this magical museum is more than enough. From the excavated paintings, to sculptures, to crockery and poetry - it's just fascinating to see. The staff on each floor were extremely friendly too - sharing as much information as possible with me. Great experience!

If you want to visit whole museum, either you pay 2 time entrance fee either you stay in for a whole day. As half of the museum is closed in the morning, other half is closed in the morning. Some part are opening at 2 in the afternoon, others are closing at that time. This sucks. There are nice pieces of art inside but the schedule ruins a nice visit of the museum. I give only one star because of the schedule, as the collection it holds is quite impressive.
