Gesu Nuovo Church, Naples

4.8
#7 of 67 in Historic Sites in Naples
Religious Site Church
Discover the hidden wonders of Gesu Nuovo Church, a 16th-century church. Its somewhat plain exterior belies the interior's grand architecture and art collection. Look for Francesco Solimena's masterpiece painting, "The Expulsion of Heliodorus from the Temple." For some local history, visit the small chapel dedicated to St. Joseph Moscati (1880–1927), a biochemistry teacher at the University of Naples and head physician of the Hospital of the Incurables. You can admire his statue and study the depiction of his medical activities on a triptych sculptured urn. • Great and precious Church, housed in a square at the end of Spaccanapoli, alone is worth a visit in the city. Sideways, palazzo Pandola, from whose balcony overlooked, Tiger in love, Sophia Loren/Filumena Marturano in marriage Italian style.

  • I was just walking around the neighbourhood as a tourist and I saw the quirky exterior and decided to get in. I've never used the expression Oh my God in a better way! The interior is just overwhelmingly beautiful, full of amazing details in every little corner. Worth the visit!
  • Simply unbelievable to see this opulent fine artwork all I. Marble from this very unassuming exterior to simply the most awe inspiring interior and free to enter please pay a gratuity at the door well worth it other places would charge easily 5 euros
  • One of the finest architectures in Naples, the Chiesa del Gesù Nuovo is a must see attraction for both tourists and Neapolitans. The entrance is free, and it is also possible to visit a small museum entitled to Saint Giuseppe Moscati which feels pretty folkloric.
  • Interesting facade led me inside. Takes your breath away.
  • Free entry. Amazing interior design.

Where to stay in Naples

Naples' lodging options include everything from turn-of-the-century historical mansions to hip boutique hotels. For a five-star experience in the heart of town, book a centrally located luxury hotel. Less expensive but just as comfortable, traditional inns just outside the central area offer peaceful comfort, private parking, and private outdoor space ideal for quiet dinners and small parties. If you are looking for a less urban experience and prefer to stay in a leafy neighborhood, consider the city's residential suburbs.
