Duomo di Napoli, Naples

4.4
Completed in the 14th century, Duomo di Napoli was built on the foundation of two palaeo-Christian basilicas, traces of which can still be seen today. When you visit this Catholic cathedral, be sure to look for the fourth-century mosaics. The grand Royal Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro contains famous frescoes by Domenichino and a reliquary by 14th-century French masters. Those of a squeamish disposition should skip the caskets of human bones. The cathedral operates a strictly modest dress code. • The beautiful Cathedral of Naples is located in the heart of Naples and is combination of Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance architecture, with a beautiful façade. The Interior is with cross plan and has three aisles with side chapels. Seeing the wonderful paintings by Luca Giordano and the chapels of the Cathedral, particularly the baroque chapel of St. Gennaro very nice with beautiful decorations and frescoes. Very beautiful and special the chapel of San Remy.

  • Place very dear to the Neapolitans. There are the remains of the Saint and is famous for the ritual of the dissolution of the blood contained in the famous glass bulbs. The fewer people who know the Museum attached to the Cathedral that is peraltreo a beautiful example of neo-Gothic architecture began to build in the 13th century at the behest of the Angevin king Charles II of Naples. The plan was to build the new structure around the baptistery of San Giovanni in Fonte and the Basilica of Santa Restituta, early Christian places of worship. The history of the Cathedral is somewhat troubled, formerly century after its façade collapsed following a terremaoto and nice centuries were several interventions that they delivered to the city in its current vetse. It is definitely worth a stop by.

  • The Cathedral of Naples is rich in beauty and charm, unique in its history, especially because of the presence of the chapel of San Gennaro. We were lucky enough to visit with a guide of the Cathedral, which to our entrance offered the availability of his knowledge. It was very good and very personable. Admission is free. So worth it!
