  • The Church of Donna Regina Vecchia, which is part of the "Monumental" comprising the Museo Diocesano and Donnaregina Nuova, has a well defined characteristics that makes it extraordinarily unique and deserves to be appreciated and examined individually: it is a fine example of Gothic architecture (1300) in a collection rich in many cultural aspects. It's behind Donnaregina Nuova (Baroque church of 1600), indeed the opening of the back wall, which connects them, makes visible the elegant Gothic structures of polygonal apse scenic contrast to great effect. Striking the nave toward apse lowered and three bays. At the sides of the apse, in the lower part, two identical Crucifixions of 1300, with frescoes by an unknown artist. Over other frescoes with figures of angels. Set the wall the tomb of Mary of Hungary of the innovative as extraordinary Tino da Camaino (1326), later on the wall the martyrdom of Saint Ursula in the same period. Fabulous Chapel Langlois (the only of the Church) lit by two mullioned Windows and Vault: is completely painted with 1300 cycles affecting the Annunciation, Madonna with child, stories from the life of St. John and St. Francis preaching to the birds. Skirting a cloister leads to the nuns ' choir, the place artistically more important because along its walls is still visible, although ruined by fire, the largest cycle of frescoes of the fourteenth century present in Naples; obvious are the hints of Giotto with Byzantine influences. The choir opens another beautiful and scenic image: the Interior of Donnaregina Nuova with its own and specific artistic identity. From old Donnaregina reaches appreciable Diocesan Museum.

  • Go visit the Diocesan Museum of Naples, complesso monumentale di Donnaregina, located in the heart of Naples is an indispensable experience, both for the Neapolitans that peri tourists. I have been there several times, most recently to admire the "Salvator Mundi" by Leonardo da Vinci, but every time I get a lot of emotions. Recent renovations return relics of different periods, the paintings are beautiful.

  • This small Museum is located in a church and contains a collection of religious works. Currently there is an exhibition on Leonardo da Vinci which includes a purported self portrait of the master.  more »
