  • Even today, when referring to a person particularly whiny that to be commiserate, also denounces ailments, she teases with a quote in dialect: "me par ospital to peace." The Hospital of the brothers Hospitallers of St. John, together with the Church of Santa Maria della Pace and the Sala del Lazzaretto are part of a single monumental complex that bears the name of the Church. It was here that during the 17th and 18th centuries were welcomed and cared for lepers and plague victims in the city of Vesuvius. 60 metres along a large room which is accessed along a grand staircase. The "Lai" is so named for the type of people that once housed. The Plexus has been an integral part of the old hospital until 1970 when the system went out of hospital activity to become historic building protected by the Superintendence of environmental goods. The balcony that runs along the perimeter walls of the bullpen is a kind of suspended half-height balcony from which doctors and orderlies were falling food and drinks to infected without coming into contact with them, so as to avoid infection. The 18th-century marble altar originally separated the main room of the Hall from behind medical cabinet. The Church has a Latin cross with a single nave and has three chapels on either side.

  • The Church is part of a monumental complex which also includes the old hospital and the Hall of the hospital. It currently houses the District San Lorenzo-Vicaria. The Church was inaugurated in 1638. Of particular note is the portal in grey and white marble, attributed to Dionisio Lazzari. The monumental complex is set around two cloisters built in different elevation for the needs of the pendenzadel site. You can visit the Sala del Lazzaretto and the mentioned church dedicated to Santa Maria della Pace in commemoration of the end of hostilities between King Philip IV of Spain and Louis XIV King of France. It is best to visit in the morning because of afternoon many times the site is closed.

  • Church with facade of eighteenth-century type (actually dates back to the mid ' 600) with nothing; the spacious interior, edited in ' 700, has a single nave with side chapels, also communicating; bright, thanks in part to the abundance of white stucco, features a terracotta majolica. I have found no opera of note. Currently used by the Ukrainian community, Byzantine rite functions take place. The Church is part of a larger complex that includes the old hospital of the brothers Hospitallers of St. John of God, built at the end of ' 500, but with use of older buildings, as revealed by the beautiful marble portal with a round arch, which leads to the courtyard of the former Hospital (located before the church coming from Castel Capuano). It is the former Hospital complex to be much more interesting part of the Church, although it is now partially used by municipal offices and mostly in a State of neglect and decay. In particular, the Sala del Lazzaretto (accessed from 1° the yard, using a scale on the left), great environment along 60 meters wide and 10, although it did not like the idea of the size, but has to be seen. Almost down to one side there is a marble altar and along the side walls, about 2 meters high, runs a gallery from which at one time it was distributing food to the sick (usually people) to avoid infection. The Church is only open on Thursdays and Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings; the first courtyard of the hospital complex is normally always open, while the Hall of the hospital can be accessed only when municipal offices open (usually morning from Monday to Friday), but be warned: the official entrance to the room you will find it still closed (except in May) but if you ask any civil servant, probably will enter the Hall as it happened to us, through a side entrance which is located in a corridor of the municipal office.

  • Here is another symbol of the city of Naples, unknown to most people, this former Hospital saw also operate the Holy doctor Moscati, while the sumptuous Hall of the Lazzaretto is undoubtedly one of the most interesting monuments of the historical centre of Naples.
