  • The Church also known as Chapel Brancaccio as built in 1385 by the Neapolitan family of high nobility. Beautiful funeral monument of Cardinal Rinaldo Brancaccio made in Tuscany, at which he worked, among others, Donatello, and shipped to Naples by sea.

  • The Church is located in piazzetta Nilo, whose name derives from the ancient Greek-Roman town district, linked to the cult of the God Nilo. It is also known as the Chapel Brancaccio and, within it, the tomb of Cardinal Rinaldo Brancaccio, who wanted the church building, between 1385 and the 1401, dedicated to Archangel Michael. The current appearance of the Church dates back to 1709, after the renovation of the architect Guglielmelli Arcangelo. The Church has a main portal, via Mezzocannone and a side door that looks out on the piazzetta Nilo. The Interior is decorated in marble of the 17th and 18th centuries and fillers designed by Archangel Guglielmelli. Above the main altar, made by the Guglielmelli, is the painting of St Michael the Archangel, built in 1573, while to the left of the altar are the tombs of Cardinal Stefano and Francesco Brancaccio, the work of sculptors from Carrara Bartholomew and Peter ghettos. In front of the tomb of Cardinal Rinaldo Brancaccio realized in a period between 1426 and 1428 by Donatello and Michelozzo, gilded and polychrome marble. The two artists completed the opera in June 1427, when the Cardinal was still alive and, from Pisa, sent by sea in Naples in 1428. From the sacristy leads to Palazzo Brancaccio from the 15th century, which houses from 1690 the first Neapolitan public library.
