  • The recurrence of the F.A.I. has allowed Day to visit this place hidden beneath the houses of populous Rione Sanità, come to light for a few years. It's a stretch of the Augustan aqueduct, which connected the sources in Serino, near Avellino, with Miseno, extreme offshoot of the phlegraean fields. Fragments of this incredible feat of engineering, there are several that have emerged along the way, but each time he discovers a new one cannot be happy because it is a piece of history of 2000 years ago that comes back to us. The visit of course needs a competent Guide, because not everything is clear, the ancient structures are fused so closely with later ones, which are not always it detangles with ease.
