Castel Nuovo - Maschio Angioino, Naples

3.6
Castel Nuovo - Maschio Angioino is a medieval castle near the sea with iconic architecture. Many visitors claim the outside view is the most impressive, so be sure to stop for photos. Once inside, you can find a 15th-century bronze door with a cannonball embedded in it, historical artwork, and other antiquities. Also look for the glass-floored room that looks down into the catacombs, which house some unearthed skeletons. • This castle dominates the surroundings even putting the grand palace opposite to shame. It used to be on the waters edge but now is a little inland. Worth a look if passing. Well preserved considering...  more »
  • Maybe I had too many expectations, but I can't say I enjoyed it. Not worth worth the ticket to get in, because it's a castle extremely anonymous. Moreover, you would enjoy no view other than that you can already see from beverello pier or from Castel dell'Ovo. In addition, the color and condition of the exterior walls leave a lot to be desired ... There should be a restoration and cleaning.

  • Castel Nuovo is probably the most fascinating medieval building among the seven fortresses built during the centuries. The tickets is a bit expensive (€6), and the setting-up may not be exactly "wow" but it is really worthwhile
  • Impressive castle-museum complex with many interesting components, however, they are not all always accessible and the civic museum suffers from poor lighting design (like many Italian museums) which makes it difficult to fully enjoy all the exhibited artworks.
  • Historical place, impressive to think that once moored ships thanks to huge rings the castle called today maschio angioino

Where to stay in Naples

Naples' lodging options include everything from turn-of-the-century historical mansions to hip boutique hotels. For a five-star experience in the heart of town, book a centrally located luxury hotel. Less expensive but just as comfortable, traditional inns just outside the central area offer peaceful comfort, private parking, and private outdoor space ideal for quiet dinners and small parties. If you are looking for a less urban experience and prefer to stay in a leafy neighborhood, consider the city's residential suburbs.
