Enjoy the views from the seaside Castel dell'Ovo, the oldest standing fortification in Naples. Its name comes from a legend that a sorcerer placed a magical egg in the foundation of the castle. If the egg breaks, the building supposedly will be destroyed, and Naples will experience a series of disastrous events. Study the tiled map of the landscape to identify the many landmarks you can see. Put Castel dell'Ovo and other Naples attractions into our Naples trip builder, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • Beautiful seafront promenade in Naples walking with this castle that rises as well, what can I say, a place of dreams, fairytale ...

  • Romantic, beautiful, where you can admire the sea of Naples and Vesuvius in the distance. Not to be missed

  • Full of restaurants where you can eat or dinner inside the enclosure, in addition to stroll through the narrow streets that form inside.

  • This place has the most amazing views of the bay and Posillipo/Meregellina. 100% worth going to and taking a passagiata around! Go here!
  • Beautiful and magnificent... Place to sit, water works in the front and two guards standing at the door pretending to protect the place.
  • If you're in Naples, you can't miss to visit this castle. Legend says it got his name from an egg placed under it by tVirgilio (the same poet who wrote Eneide). If the egg was removed, then bad things would happen to Naples. Located in front the Mergellina promenade, if you're in Piazza Plebiscito it's just some steps away. Go on the top and admire the splendid view of the Naples gulf. Plus it's for free.
  • Castel dell'Ovo is the best place to take panoramic photos of the Gulf of Naples. Other than that, it's an interesting fortress which now hosts a museum and some temporary exhibitions.
  • I think if you want to breathe The perfect air of Naples, you have to go there on The top terrace of The Castle and be grateful to get rich yourself with The magnificent landscape you will see.
