The Cistercian abbey at Abbazia Santa Maria di Morimondo lies in peaceful, green surroundings. Founded in 1134 by a group of monks from Morimondo, the abbey’s life revolves around the central cloister. The door and arches of the façade contrast with the stark interior, where you can see a fresco by Bernardino Luini, a wooden choir from 1522, and a 15th-century crucifix. Learn about abbey life in the Middle Ages in the museum, which explores such topics as food, cooking, energy, water, and architecture over the history of the abbey. • Amid the countryside of Lombardy, lost in the Green and not far from Ticino, he hides this small but pleasant village. Walking through the alleys you arrive at Abbey in Lombard Romanesque style with red bricks comes off the vegetation. Very well preserved and under restoration to return in full in its full splendour is the ideal destination for a short trip not far from Milan or for those headed to visit the nearby Vigevano.

  • Destination for many bike rides, the Abbey of Morimondo always leaves a particular sense of smallness with its grandeur. Surrounded by fields, remains pristine and surreal as if everything were left during its heyday. Special view from courtyard near the villa (where now a venue the joint) the Valley of Ticino.

  • Place to visit. The Abbey is small but the guide was engaging. I recommend having a guided tour to fully understand the Abbey and what surrounds it
