  • The expiatory Chapel is one of the symbols, although tragic character, of Monza. In fact, the chapel was built by the King of Italy Vittorio Emanuele III to commemorate his father, Umberto I, after the assassination took place at the hands of Gaetano Bresci, on 29 July 1900, right here at Monza. Situated near the Royal Villa, deserves a visit, even if only from the outside.

  • Many times we passed near the expiatory Chapel, of great historical impact, because at that point, the 29 July 1900 King Umberto I was assassinated by an anarchist. The structure of the Funeral Chapel, 35 meters high and built by his son, Victor Emmanuel III in the style of the time, it hasn't attracted that much. A few days ago, we decided to carry out this visit, in a normal working day (the Museum is open every day from Tuesday to Saturday, 2° and 4° Monday of each month, 1° and 3° Sunday of the month, from 9 to 14. I have been a Friday at 12.30). It was a revelation. A tomb with fine mosaics of rare beauty adorn the upper chapel, with warm colours, gold, precious stones, in excellent condition. A young architect, who travels there every day for the studies, explained every detail. of this amazing. We were lucky enough to meet her. However, the first impact is with a very nice keeper, Mrs Ivana, very helpful, who introduced us in the beautiful tomb in the shape of a Greek cross, with ten little Windows of Alabaster. The mosaic are gorgeous and depict a starry sky, while the Central Vault has a red background with floral motifs. We were delighted to have made this visit, because if the outside is gloomy and sad, the Interior is a riot of colors and styles. A sad story, that lives on through this pharaonic work, realized in a few years, after the assassination of the King. Recommended visit. The Chapel is a long period of summer holidays, religious institutes of the one person who holds.

  • For many years it was really hard to visit the expiatory Chapel, in recent years abandoned for too long without guardians (and this has facilitated the theft of three bronze wreaths to the right of the staircase). For some time he was named the guardian, therefore is open both during the week and Sunday (the first and third Sunday of the month). The place, beyond the historical ties, is architecturally speaking beautiful: don't miss the mosaics of the chapel on the first floor or the ceiling of the crypt.
