Arengario, Monza
(4.1/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
The Arengario is a historic building in Monza, northern Italy. It was built in the 13th century and is named after its original function as the town's "arengario" (i.e., town hall). It is located in the most central square of Monza, Piazza Roma. Its architecture is clearly inspired by that of the Palazzo della Ragione of Milan, with a portico surmounted by a single upper floor that was used for councils. The side of the building facing South has a small stone loggia (added to the main building in 1330) informally known as "la Parléra" (in Lombard, "the speaking place"), where the commune's decrees were declaimed to the population. In the 14th century, a bell tower was added, decorated with Ghibelline-styled merlons. In the original building, external stairs led to the upper floor; these have been replaced in 1904 with a new stairway inside the tower.Photo gallery

  • Coming from via Vittorio Emanuele, and after the bridge of the Lions, you see in the background the Arengario that gradually becomes more impressive; in fact its mass dominates the beautiful piazza Roma with perfect and high brick Bell Tower and then with the beautiful building with large arches surmounted by small and graceful triple Lancet Windows; Don't miss the classic lateral Loggia for the reading of decrees that brings the mind to the social rules of the time.

  • I love this artist and his photographs. Pity that the exhibition space dell'arengario has not valued. Wrong lighting, too little space, impossible for a person with disabilities to visit the exhibition, few audio guides. There is a chance to sit down to enjoy the videos, no staff in the room. Finished the exhibition catalogue. 9 euros are far too many! Luckily there were photos. Palazzo Reale di Milano forever.

  • Located in the historic center of the city of Monza, the Arengario represents the ancient Palazzo Comunale; dating back to the 13th century, was built at the edge of Pratum Magnum (the historical market square) and today it overlooks the central Piazza Roma. Consisting of a large porch and a brick Tower, was restored several times over the centuries and even today, together with the Iron Crown, is one of the main symbols of the city. Nowadays the palazzo dell'arengario is used for public events and for the display of exhibits.
