  • The Church of the confraternity of assistance to widows, orphans and castaways. Two-tone front like in Genoa. Decoration of Heads of dead and skeletons in the middle of the angels and virgins... Passage behind the altar but impossible to know what's in there... Too many people! We gave up!

  • I have seen many churches and cathedrals while traveling. This one was the most unique. The black and white stone is beautiful and pleasant to look at.  more »
  • Situated beside the Church of San Giovanni Battista, the chapel inside has several stucco depicting skulls and skeletons. With a small donation (€1) you can go to the back of the altar, rather unimportant

Where to stay in Cinque Terre

It's hard to go wrong with accommodations in Cinque Terre, home to some of the most charming hotels and bed and breakfasts in the country. Choosing among them depends largely on what you want most from your trip. Consider spending a restful vacation on the hilltop to enjoy the famous ocean views, or plant yourself somewhere closer to the shoreline in Riomaggiore for easy access to beaches. If you expect to spend lots of time exploring side streets and local shops, opt for accommodations along one of the main streets in any of the villages. Though it can be difficult to find inexpensive lodgings here, there are some more affordable options in Manarola, the smallest of the five villages, and Monterosso. You can even stay at a hostel in the national park if you want to be close to nature.
