  • The Cathedral Church of Santa Maria Assunta stands on the site of the ancient Church of Santa Maria, was built between 1592 and 1630. The cathedral stands on the Piazza Grande di Montepulciano, the façade of rough wall was never completed, rises above a staircase and has three portals and three Windows. On the left corner forward the belfry of the ancient Church of Santa Maria. The main work of the Duomo of Montepulciano is the shovel placed over the high altar, a magnificent triptych of Taddeo di Bartolo of 1401. In the Centre the Virgin towering above the Apostles.

  • Typical Italian religious architecture. Bell is here but not completely free-standing, but almost reminiscent of the nave.

  • Been very positively surprised about the size and design of this Cathedral. This Church looks relatively small from the outside. Worth a visit from the inside.
