It is located approximately one kilometre from the village of Montecatini Val di Cecina and was active from Etruscan times up to the beginning of 1900 years with some breaks. During the nineteenth century the company expanded copper mine and Montecatini Val di Cecina became the largest copper mine in Europe. Mining activities ceased in the early 20th century. Very exciting leadership (also in German and English) with lots of information about the mine and the life in the equally beautiful Montecatini. This detour on the road to Volterra is extremely worthwhile. Far from the masses of tourists can enjoy breath-deprived views of the country. During the tour, you can feel the passion for what is here to report it. It is a part of the life of the Director and she tells this part full of joy. Grazie molto, cara Lucia!

The guide is made by Mrs. Lucia was clear, exciting and sometimes exciting, skill and passion that animate leave a sense of satisfaction and regret to leave a path over. The place is a step back in history, society and the world of work, the visit to the mine is exciting and topped by real anecdotes recounted cleverly they create empathy with the visitor and make him feel at home. The restoration is impressive and leaves intact secondary workplaces to the mine and the interiors as offices and adjoining rooms at the entrance to the tunnel. The documentary exhibits and some ceramic pieces are available for viewing in a way so simple that it really seems to be in a familiar place, perhaps I should say that in this place you can "feel" the story, a visitor experience that breaks down the divide between visited and visitor and which I think creates what is called a cosy Museum that not only entertains but welcomes you. PS: I made the visit with my seven year old daughter who is fascinated and never lost focus on the story.
After the tour we fell in love in the city and could felt the soul of all miners. It was the most unique and unforgettable excursion that we had.
Was a nice expirience, enjoying a walk through many years back of Mining in Italy.
Today March 11, despite the bad weather, we visited the Museum of mining in Montecatini Val di Cecina. Excited about what we have seen and visited. A throwback with a competent Guide, funny and passionate with profound love of the history of mininiera. Galleries and various tunnels, masterpieces of the many labors of man. The small village is worth visiting.
Easter fun in Volterra we see a sign indicating MINE MUSEUM. ... adiamo.....ma I never expected to find such a beautiful place and well done to guide explaining really well and with so much love for this place to go back!!
Visit interesting and fascinating story of these mines and for how they lived the miners at the time. Expert guidance and to finish the country is a gem
