(4.8/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
A prime example of Rococo architecture, Chiesa di San Giorgio, the primary cathedral of Modica, is noteworthy for the 250-step staircase leading up to it. Designated a World Monumental Heritage Site by UNESCO, this church has been rebuilt on numerous occasions due to destructive earthquakes in the 17th and 18th centuries. Climb the monumental steps to the base of the imposing facade and enjoy a panorama of the city. Examine the facade's ornate decorations, or step inside for a look at the silver altarpiece. • The magnificent cathedral, standing on a hill above the Gorge, in which stands the city. From the porch with breathtaking views. You can climb the Tower, and then the review would be even better.

  • After the Cathedral dedicated to St. Peter, in the upper part of the town, at the height of a beautiful staircase, rises the Cathedral dedicated to Saints George and Hippolytus, Pearl of Sicilian baroque. Imponenente façade with five entries that correspond to the five naves of the Church, of which we cannot express in words. I therefore call for a visit that will not leave you disappointed.

  • Turning the bend on Corso San Giorgio you are in front of the subtle side profile of the Cathedral. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage, is worth a visit as well as the staircase, interrupted by the road, which leads to its entrance.
