A prime example of Rococo architecture, Chiesa di San Giorgio, the primary cathedral of Modica, is noteworthy for the 250-step staircase leading up to it. Designated a World Monumental Heritage Site by UNESCO, this church has been rebuilt on numerous occasions due to destructive earthquakes in the 17th and 18th centuries. Climb the monumental steps to the base of the imposing facade and enjoy a panorama of the city. Examine the facade's ornate decorations, or step inside for a look at the silver altarpiece. • Besides being one of the masterpieces of Sicilian Baroque, set in an urban structure that enhances further the magnificence, is-in my opinion-the subject of one of the most beautiful planetary landscapes, starting with a long and impressive staircase. The Interior is immaculate, divided into three naves, is not as exciting as the façade, but worth a visit. You remain speechless watching the great polyptych by Bernardino Nigro of 1566 preserved in the apse, truly lovely. In short, Duomo di San Giorgio Modica icon equal. Not to be missed!!
