Ghirlandina, Modena
(4.5/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
A watchful guardian over the city of Modena, Ghirlandina serves as the city's token landmark and traditional symbol. The elegant bell tower and World Heritage Site stands 82 m (269 ft) tall and can be seen from all angles of the city. The rectangular first five floors were built in 1179 and follow the Roman architectural canons, while the characteristically Gothic octagonal cusp and pyramid were later added. Two garland-like marble balustrades crown the tower and give it its name. Make the 200-step climb to the top, and consider using one of the audio guides, which are available in many languages. • The two most important preserved in the territory of the newly designed past (Romanesque and Gothic) are here fused harmoniously to create the symbol of the city. The Bell Tower in Romanesque style was built in 300 a Gothic octagonal Spire: a fantastic daring creation that today, where reigns the conservatism, nobody would dare. I like to bring back the phrase with which it turns Sandrone, Modena, mask; piòpa èlta drétta sàcca, "the piantèda of the umbréghel, and in and Mòdna, ch's ' dry poplar ciama Ghirlandèina" (, tall and straight, planted in the navel of Modena, which is called the Ghirlandina "

  • We took the ticket includes a visit to the museo del duomo, factory and municipal. The Ghirlandina in Modena from above and we saw orient yourself on the various sites of interest. Nice to visit the municipal vinegar works where they explained the art of producing traditional balsamic vinegar of Modena and they didn't taste this great product.

  • Beautiful bell tower which gives an extra touch to the equally lovely Cathedral. Together they create a nice glance and make the square an attraction not to be missed.
