Ghirlandina, Modena

(4.4/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
A watchful guardian over the city of Modena, Ghirlandina serves as the city's token landmark and traditional symbol. The elegant bell tower and World Heritage Site stands 82 m (269 ft) tall and can be seen from all angles of the city. The rectangular first five floors were built in 1179 and follow the Roman architectural canons, while the characteristically Gothic octagonal cusp and pyramid were later added. Two garland-like marble balustrades crown the tower and give it its name. Make the 200-step climb to the top, and consider using one of the audio guides, which are available in many languages. • Is the hub, with the Duomo, the medieval city moved than the Roman one of few hundred meters along the same axis. Is visible from kilometres away and is well restored from a recent surgery. Marble is crowned by an elegant and charming coverage that characterizes it. It's beautiful and slightly leaning due to the nasty habit of suicides to use it as a springboard to the top access is forbidden. However the entry is recommended in order to ascend to a major share and have a nice view of the city and have a picture of them together. The Tower contains a copy of the famous secchia rapita symbol of eternal struggle with the Bolognese, inspiring poem of Tassoni (not the rate). Funny how authors almost contemporaries, both in the area and of similar surnames you grabbing kidnappings and liberations. of buckets or city it matters little.

  • It's definitely the most fascinating of Modena alongside the Cathedral, but the views from a height of 90 meters pays off for sure of the effort to get to the top. Look at the hills of Bologna, the ceramics district, the tall buildings that mark the ancient city walls and the impressive Piazza Grande and the Doge's Palace, we plunge into a 360 degree vision of the province and of the beauty of the area. Definitely worth a visit, if you are lucky you even has there chance of attending a explanation with the help support.

  • Tower very low compared to the rest of the towers of Central Italy, also open up a little more than half height for safety reasons. There are railings and Windows that make it difficult to take pictures and enjoy the scenery. Closes very early (at 17), and this penalises since, being Modena in plain, is one of the few places where you can enjoy the sunset.
