Vicolo Privato Lavandai, Milan

(4.3/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Vicolo Privato Lavandai is on the banks of the Naviglio near the dockyard. Washerwomen worked at this ancient laundry service until the 1950s, cleaning the townspeople's linens in the canal. You can still see their wooden seats and cement washing slabs. You might stop for dinner next door at Ristorante El Brellin, which is in the old grocery shop that supplied the women with soaps and bleaches. The building retains the original fireplaces and wood-paneled ceilings. In this area of narrow roads and proximity to the canal, you may stumble across an interesting shop or bar. • A glimpse of Milan's navigli of another era, well preserved and not yet too commoditized.

  • A Milan that you do not expect, a Milan of yesteryear. Il Vicolo dei Lavandai deserves a visit, a melancholy sigh and a souvenir photo.

  • One of the most characteristic of Milan, is undoubtedly the "Vicolo dei Lavandai", nestled in a small corner of the Towpath of the Naviglio Grande, is a very charming, reminiscent of vintage photos of Milan, has remained virtually intact, it seems strange to see him here as well, but it is precisely that belo! There are still the stones where the laundresses washed garments, a romantic place and for sure to be photographed ... it's really worth going here and a little spin, then there's all the Canal around them, so don't miss it
