Vicolo Privato Lavandai, Milan

4.5
Vicolo Privato Lavandai is on the banks of the Naviglio near the dockyard. Washerwomen worked at this ancient laundry service until the 1950s, cleaning the townspeople's linens in the canal. You can still see their wooden seats and cement washing slabs. You might stop for dinner next door at Ristorante El Brellin, which is in the old grocery shop that supplied the women with soaps and bleaches. The building retains the original fireplaces and wood-paneled ceilings. In this area of narrow roads and proximity to the canal, you may stumble across an interesting shop or bar. • A neat little Alley with a slimy and dirty water, it is not a good calling card for what is termed an attraction to visit. I wonder why nobody to clean the Canal, it is true that there are no more the laundresses, but that doesn't justify the swampy appearance. Not worth the visit.

  • A very poetic "Vecchia Milano" must see, that represents the original place, right where the women of the people, anciently, wash their clothes in the naviglio (which then was spotless ...). Embellished with beautiful plants, very nice!

  • A corner, among many in the area where time stood still. Ancient washhouse where women, between a chat and the other, washing their shoes! Worth a visit!

  • If you're lucky and find your sunny day, the place will seem even more magical. The atmosphere is colorful, romantic, full of little corners where unknown painters and artists show their art with kindness and passion! Not to mention the crystal clear water under the bridge:) Navigli is definitely the most beautiful area of Milan

  • Characteristic glimpse of old Milan surrounded by palaces of the towpath. Nice throw an eye on passing from there to see how the area has changed in a few decades.

  • One of the most fascinating places of the old Milan of the poor. Here until the 1960s were women wash clothes in the naviglio. There are photos and testimonials from this still in the memory of older people. It is now at the center of one of the most popular nightlife areas of Milan. Unmissable day Sunday with the antiques market or flowers in spring
