Tour delle Merlate - Castello Sforzesco, Milan

(4.5/5 based on 8,500+ reviews on the web)
Well-preserved and packed with history and art, Tour delle Merlate - Castello Sforzesco was built in the 15th century on the remains of an ancient fortification. Later renovated and enlarged, the castle became one of the largest fortresses in Europe. Once the private home of the Sforza-Visconti ruling family of Milan, this became the Austrian governor's official residence when Lombardy was taken into the powerful Habsburg empire. Largely reconstructed in the late 19th century by architect Luca Beltrami, it now houses museums of applied arts, antique furniture and wooden sculpture, musical instruments, and Egyptian art. The castle also includes hundreds of works of Italian art, including masterpieces by Canaletto, Tiepolo, Titian, Correggio, and Tintoretto, among others. Admission to the castle is free; you can book tickets for the castle museums by phone or buy them on site. • With a group of friends went on a trip to Milan, one of the ns. stages was the Castello Sforzesco, totally unknown to us. Is mandatory for those coming to Milan for the first time, but you don't have to spend too much time because the Royal Palace is imposing and well preserved, but almost completely redone. Inside are open only a few exhibitions, of which the only important thing is the Rondanini Pietà by Michelangelo.

  • Via Milano guide we could enjoy a fascinating visit to the Castello Sforzesco. Our guide Valentina was able to give us emotions, even by virtue of his enthusiasm and competence. Mercy Rains alone would be worth the trip. Splendid.

  • We chose a Sunday drive around the beautiful and modern Milan, between shop Windows and shops, not far from the duomo is the Castello Sforzesco with its magnificent entrance, suitable for all ages, because history will not be boring, who appreciates at a time. Easily walkable in a very central area, has given us a day where time stood still!.
