Escape the busy streets of Milan in Santa Maria Presso San Satiro, a peaceful, 15th-century church where you'll see a famous trompe-l'oeil choir. The apse in the church was too small to do much with, so Italian architect Donato Bramante created an illusory apse. Stand at the back of the nave, and you'll think you're looking at a deep apse. If you stand to the side, you'll see that it the apse is actually quite small. Admire the Byzantine frescoes and other great artworks throughout the church. Put Santa Maria Presso San Satiro into our Milan tourist route planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • A beautiful church that embraces a true masterpiece, the apse optical illusion, which seems of normal proportions, but approaching reveals the fact that it is a true trompe l'oeil. Amazing and brilliant.

  • In this church I've been there a thousand times and coincidentally I decided to enter. There is a wonderful work of Bramante which deserves to be seen

  • The church interior is beautifully decorated. The ceiling paintings are particularly impressive. This church is along the way if one walks from the Duomo are to the Last Supper by Leonardo DiVinci.
  • Must be seen. You can enter on top of the Cathedral and have a great view to city center. Interior is decorated with beautiful statues and stained glass. You have place to sit and rest in cathedral .
  • A small jewel in the heart of Milano! Built in 1400, it's worth a visit as it has Bramante's "fake perspective" paintings!
  • Beautiful church near the Duomo
  • This is a small church nearby the Duomo. It is difficult to find so you will need a map. It is a nice place to rest and reflect along your trip. There is opera music playing softly in the loud speakers. The current church dates back to the 1400s. Check out the perspective from behind the altar. It is amazing to see from all angles.
  • Amazing, the first trompe l'oeil. You must see to understand.
