(4.5/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
Get a sense of the city when it was the capital of the Western Roman Empire by stepping inside San Lorenzo Maggiore, the oldest church in Milan, dating back to the 4th century. Visit the Chapel of St. Aquilinus to view ancient Byzantine mosaics. Find the sarcophagus in the chapel said to hold the body of Galla Placidia, daughter of the Roman Emperor Theodosius I. Follow the stairs behind the altar to see pieces of the original foundation, built with materials taken from an old Roman amphitheater. • It's a different church from those typical of Lombardy in brick and plaster. Old, centrally planned by the idea inside and outside of a small town made by different parties but well-knit. Then the mosaics ...

  • Feel old and is quite different from the Duomo of Gothic-style building. Put in the chapel. Go, but to walk away from the Duomo. Cylinder also highlights.

  • Impressive basilica, though I expected a little more. Architecture-wise it is beautiful, but the decorations are somehow missing.
  • One of the oldest churches of Christianity. Similarity in structure and building techniques to Saint Sophia in Istanbul. Amazing Paleochristian mosaics in the chapel of Saint Aquilino.
  • Heritage architecture at its finest. I'm not a religious person, however, architecturally this is amazing, inside and out.
  • The church is calm and serene. The mosaic work exhibited is worth visiting and spending a few minutes for.
  • Beautiful.
