San Carlo al Corso, Milan

4.0
San Carlo al Corso is a neo-classic church in the center of Milan. The church is managed by the Servite Order. The church facade was designed in 1844 by Carlo Amati and was finished in 1847. It then served as a model for the Chiesa Rotonda in San Bernardino, Switzerland, 1867.The complex was built to replace Convent of the Servite founded as early as 1290 and later was suppressed in 1799. The new church was built in thanks for the ending a cholera epidemic, and dedicated to Saint Charles Borromeo who was the Bishop of Milan during the time of the bubonic plague in Milan during the 16th century.

  • The Church looks unusual, because in Italy often build buildings with high towers. This church is squat like the famous Roman pantheon. Built in the first half of the nineteenth century on the ruins of an old monastery. It became the temple ornament Central Milan

  • Nice and simple, this church, is set in a neoclassical style, clearly inspired by the structure of the Pantheon. Unfortunately the week closes at 12 and you cannot visit the Interior

  • Got back yesterday afternoon with my wife to visit this beautiful and impressive basilica just steps from piazza San Babila. The look is austere neoclassical on the outside and with a beautiful Colonnade of granite columns. Inspiration is the Pantheon, but also in San Francesco di Paola in Naples, in piazza del Plebiscito. The Interior is dominated by the large dome. But I will touch on a curiosity: the two fonts placed next to two gates are formed by two gigantic valve of the shell. These are two valve of Tridacna, which exist in Milan another even bigger (among the top 10 in the world) at the Civic Museum of natural history. Another curiosity, unfortunately no longer visible looking at the Church, as covered by the new houses that hide, is its bell-tower with its 84 meters high is the highest in Milan (the Spire of the Madonnina del Duomo is not a steeple).

  • Amazing church. The details are amazing. Historically much more interesting than Doumo.
  • Hidden between the buildings arround it and at the same time located in the heart in Milano, very short walkting distance from the Duomo. The church is impressive. You can take a look inside without need to wait you turn after a lot of other people
  • Beautiful church close to Duomo
  • Beautiful church, huge and impressive cupola from outside, but not that impressive from inside, I didn't notice many artwork from inside the cupola.
  • Wedding rehearsal was phenomenal
