  • Amazing market around the canal. Loved the small restaurants and had the best pasta ever. You can buy a lot of home made stuff
  • The ancient Porta Ticinese, also called Porta Cicca (from the Spanish "chica", meaning "small"), is a neighborhood that-despite fads, transformations and whatnot--has managed to retain its own identity and some still authentic, not only in outstanding monuments and churches (Basilica of Sant'Eustorgio and San Lorenzo in the first place), but more generally in the variety of views, in the urban fabric and character of the inhabitants themselves. Unfortunately the entire Ticino, as the Navigli district who are part of it, from the evening onwards becomes a hellish bolgia, the "movida" it is so famous and renowned. This is also the reason for the low score I assigned. Anyway, crossing in the morning and in other quiet hours, Porta Ticinese is able to charm with its unique atmosphere and hard to explain. You can start from Piazza XXIV Maggio — from the majestic arc of Luigi Cagnola, Napoleonic era (1801-13), and the nearby old oak tree (born in 1895 and planting in 1924), divert briefly toward the dock, then take Corso di Porta Ticinese, meet and surpass the ancient medieval door up to the columns of San Lorenzo. The ride is thickly dotted with bars, restaurants and shops of all kinds, as well as funny and artistic murals.
