(3/5 based on 40+ reviews on the web)
Piazza Cordusio is a square in central Milan, Italy. The piazza takes its name from the Cors Ducis which was found in the square during Longobard times. It is well known for its several turn-of-the-19th-century Neoclassical, eclectic and Art Nouveau buildings, banks and post offices. Even though many of these have now relocated elsewhere, it is still an important commercial square in the city and hosts the Palazzo delle Assicurazioni Generali, the Palazzo del Credito Italiano and the Palazzo delle Poste, former Borsa di Milano . Piazzale Cordusio hosts the Cordusio metro station and is the starting point of the elegant pedestrian Via Dante which leads to the imposing medieval Castello Sforzesco, or Milan Castle. Opposite to Via Dante, Cordusio borders onto Piazza Mercanti, former city centre in the Middle Ages, which leads directly to Piazza del Duomo, today's city centre.PalacesPalazzo delle Assicurazioni GeneraliThis palace is the main one in the square, and was built by architect Luca Beltrami from 1897 to 1901. It is the main headquarter of the mega-finance corporation Assicurazioni Generali. It has a small tower with a dome.Palazzo del Credito ItalianoThe palace of the Credito Italiano, which is a semi-circular eclectic building, designed by Luigi Broggi.

  • It would be very reductive indicate Piazza Cordusio only to the fact that there is the metro station, you have to stop and admire the splendid buildings that so very glamorous make up an ellipse, buildings full of history.

  • Piazza Cordusio tells much of Milan from yesterday and today. Home to major financial institutions, is surrounded by a myriad of shops by level but also for all budgets but is especially important streets crossing linking the Duomo at Castello Sforzesco, the latter, dramatically, already visible from this square. Walking is the historic Merchants Square which opens up to the dome and in front of Via Dante, the walkway towards the Castle. But Piazza Cordusio is right bell itself. Roundish, austere, is full of charm. And you'll notice by. You will thus account for many details of great beauty.

  • Situated in the historic center square, always very busy. Crossing point of several lines of tram and metro station. Beautiful buildings.
