La Rinascente, Milan

3.9
#3 of 128 in Shopping in Milan
Just to the left of the Milan Cathedral, La Rinascente has been a favorite of Italian shoppers since 1887. It's the oldest department store in Italy, thriving until the World War I's resulting destruction and poverty and almost drove it out of business. Poet Gabriele d'Annunzio rescued it by rebranding it La Rinascente (the reborn), to symbolize the rebirth of Italy and the store. The name took on literal significance when a short circuit burned the building down on Christmas night 1918, only for it to be rebuilt. Now, you can explore six floors of brand-name fashion topped by a gourmet market and rooftop cafe with views of the cathedral. • There's many things that you can see anywhere else. The Department of women's shoes is alone worth a visit. It's not the quantity, but Shcuhe that you get to see hardly somewhere else on this planet in such concentrated form. Furthermore are all prominent labels. And when you arrive in August, then there is partly up to 70% discount on different clothing. If you are in Milan, then this is a "must have"

  • I've been several times in this great store on several floors that definitely deserves six pellets for the Department on the lower level and for all other floors between clothing, accessories, bars, restaurants and food. Perfumery Department sales system just doesn't work. Committed ready to spray all scents more commercial time to launch the sale. They defend their positions according to the brand they represent. Completely wrong sales policy, with their behavior pressing inhibit the purchase. A shame because the items in the perfumery are exclusive and not readily identifiable elsewhere. Surely this sales policy Department of winks to the United States where the clerks are definitely nicer, less overwhelming and urgent. Otherwise this huge store-brand worth a visit especially technological creative department downstairs. I think should be recognized as the flagship of the Rinascente in Milan.

  • This department store had all the brands under one roof. Instead of walking to all the boutiques, you can shop here!  more »

  • One of the best malls in North Italy. La Rinascente has a very good variety of high end brands. At the seventh floor you can find a food shop and some restaurants and bars. Note that prices are very high and the service / overall experience not that good.
  • I ordered anarkali Suit from the United States. I was little worried like how the stitching(mainly fit) will be. But I was really happy with the stitching. It was so perfect.. Customer service is also good. They respond to emails in timely manner which is another good thing..
  • Large, fancy department store with a good selection of brands and a good choice of products for each. Most items are upscale/pricey, but you can find some good deals too. There's a nice design shop on the underground floor, and make sure you don't miss the food hall on the top floor: small and extremely pricey, but you can find some pretty unique items. The bar and restaurant on top also have gorgeous views of the Duomo.
  • If you want high end shopping this is the place if you can afford it. I tried to eat in the rooftop restaurant (that is what my review refers to) - ordering a drink to start with. Service was remarkably slow. I didn't stay for anything else. It's a pity because the view overlooking Duomo is first class. The rooftop restaurant at La Rinascente is a delicious and gorgeous way to spend your lunch break in Milan. Was here last week with family and we each ordered a different risotto dish....my brother easily won with the black truffle Parmesan risotto, but how can you go wrong with black truffle right? Boyfriend had the traditional saffron risotto with shrimp crudo atop - also delicious! Place is a little pricey so I wouldn't suggest if you're budget conscious but also, the risotto will hold you over for the day so this could be your one "splurge" for the day. Milan is known for their risotto so don't miss the opportunity to enjoy!
  • Now that's an interesting place. All the big designers are available in one convenient location. The store attracts a strange crowd coming from far away, with enough money to buy these things. You can enjoy watching both the clothes and the people.

Where to stay in Milan

For a quintessential Milanese experience, stay in the bustling heart of the old town. This area offers easy foot access to most of Milan's main sites, as well as some of the city's finest restaurants, shops, and theaters. The central area is also quite crowded, and comfortable rooms in good hotels can be very expensive.
