Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Milan

4.5
#1 of 3,114 in Shopping in Italy
Now a huge shopping mall, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II was designed by architect Giuseppe Mengoni and built between 1865 and 1877. Often called "the living room of Milan" because of its importance as a popular meeting and dining place, this building is topped by a glass dome and features an exquisite mosaic floor. Considered one of the city's main landmarks, the mall is home to some of the region's oldest shops, as well as a number of modern, upscale boutiques, including Louis Vuitton and Prada. Choose from numerous cafes and restaurants that serve a wide range of foods for all budgets. This busy commercial building is also a good place to learn about the city's art and architecture, with several notable galleries spread across the mall's extensive grounds. • the most famous shopping street in the world, top-brand shopping, but mostly gorgeous architecture and includes marble floor mazaikmi

  • fabulous Gallery, identical to that of Naples. At first I felt like I was just in Naples. There are many shops inside and many bars but very expensive

  • Worth knowing. Very glamorous. Several shops. Not worth lunch places available here-very expensive.

  • One of the most interesting oddities when traveling through Italy. A pedestrian street completely enclosed by a glass roof, filled with shops and cafes. The first time I saw this place when I was a kid 45 years ago I thought it was so cool. Since then I’ve been in it hundreds of times and it’s still a marvel- not just in construction but in the resulting totally unique vibe. The fact that it connects a huge plaza that contains the third largest cathedral in the world with another plaza that contains the most storied and iconic opera house in the world is just a bonus. Americans continue to pass up visiting Milano on their trips to Italy (which I find endlessly amusing) and that’s just peachy with me.
  • Such a lovely and lively place! Just beside the Milan Cathedral and lots of delicious restaurants the place has many shopping options. It is connected by the metro and very conveniently one can reach there; it is kind of the city center. There are thousands of pigeons fearlessly roaming around and kindly allowing the humans to feed them.
  • Major high end boutiques house in this stunning structure and space. Vast selection of restaurants and cafes for tired tourists. It's nice to walk around to enjoy watching the people. However, my only dining experience quality is not that good. Just read a bit of review before choosing the correct nice corner to watch people.
  • Nice shops and restaurants wonder nearby scenery. Many times there are people playing live music in the square. This is also an area for larger concerts near the cathedral. Some great restaurants inside and outside the shopping area. Large taxi pickup and drop off area just in the other side of the square makes it easy to come and go as you please.
  • OMG! Are you kidding me?! Is this really a mall!! Italian architecture at its finest 😍😍😍. If you went to Milan and you didn’t go there I don’t know why are u traveling in the first place!! A must visit! Please take a minute of your time and look up 😊 BEAUTIFUL
