  • Piazza Fontana is a nice area, a bit more quiet than the main Duomo square which is about a block or so away. There is a really lovely fountain in the piazza, which is not extravagant, but provides a ...  more »
  • With the thickest of their tresses in the Piazza Fontana trees invite you to linger in the shade and cool down with water from the eighteenth-century fountain, subjected to thorough cleaning yesterday. While the mermaids and dolphins dazzle with their whiteness and the entire fountain looks cheerful and bright becomes even more pleasant to sit on one of the benches for a rest stop and reflection before tackling the path under the Sun. If not a destination, certainly a must see as well as providential. PS-it should be noted that, contrary to the claims in a recent review, the massacre of 12 December 1969 (17 dead and 88 wounded) is commemorated by a large plaque placed next to the entrance of the former Banca Nazionale dell'Agricoltura, collocatavi on 12 December 1979 on the tenth anniversary of the horrendous tragedy (see picture).

  • Although the square itself has nothing special that makes it attractive for tourists, for us it was important to us because it encapsulates a piece of our history. In fact 47 years ago was the scene of a tragic event when he detonated a bomb in allorasede of National Agriculture, and exactly the Shady 12 December 1969. With great regret we noticed that there was not even a plaque in memory of that painful event. We instead found in the garden two plaques in memory of railwayman anarchist Giuseppe Pinelli, who died falling from a window of police headquarters in Milan where he had been detained for questioning following the bomb explosion in Fountain Square.

Where to stay in Milan

For a quintessential Milanese experience, stay in the bustling heart of the old town. This area offers easy foot access to most of Milan's main sites, as well as some of the city's finest restaurants, shops, and theaters. The central area is also quite crowded, and comfortable rooms in good hotels can be very expensive. Visitors traveling on a budget can choose from a range of top-notch B&Bs and family-operated hostels, which offer private parking and access to private outdoor space, minutes from Milan's main attractions.
