Religious Site Church
Escape the busy streets of Milan in Chiesa di Santa Maria presso San Satiro, a peaceful, 15th-century church where you'll see a famous trompe-l'oeil choir. The apse in the church was too small to do much with, so Italian architect Donato Bramante created an illusory apse. Stand at the back of the nave, and you'll think you're looking at a deep apse. If you stand to the side, you'll see that it the apse is actually quite small. Admire the Byzantine frescoes and other great artworks throughout the church. Put Chiesa di Santa Maria presso San Satiro into our Milan tourist route planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • This Mannerist style church w/ Romanesque bell tower was completed in 1482 and is located in the historical center of Milan. The gated exterior façade has a portal flanked by two windows w/ bars toppe...  more »
  • Small church in the historic center. Very pretty and it has a "false apse" painted so that it looks deeper than what it actually is.  more »
  • Firstly I'm not in the slightest bit religious but I do like churches as they are so beautiful. This one is no exception and is a little gem in the city well worth searching out. I'm sure if you're re...  more »

  • Do not miss this church. It's just metres away from the Piazza del Duomo. Pay attention to the wall behind the altar. It looks like a beautiful semi dome with lots of details. Walk all the way to the wall and look at it from the side. The semi dome is not such a thing but a perspective illusion. The wall is no more than 2 metres deep.
  • Nice little church. Stop by if you can.
  • An unexpected quiet and peaceful church in the middle of the crowded shopping area of via Torino
  • I only saw this from the outside but it is a very beautiful church!
  • Must be seen. You can enter on top of the Cathedral and have a great view to city center. Interior is decorated with beautiful statues and stained glass. You have place to sit and rest in cathedral .
