  • I went back yesterday to revisit this Church (and perhaps, unknowingly, I met up with another poster that we were on the same day), which stands on the site where the Porta Vercellina of Roman walls, hence the name. I know this Church since I was born in the nearby via Morigi, a short walk away. The Church is in a Baroque style and has a beautiful interior. Its characteristic is to be the chaplaincy of the Polish community in Milan. In fact all the inscriptions are bilingual, as well as some masses are celebrated in Polish. In the chapel in the left transept makes a fine show the statue of Pope John Paul II and, beside the altar, the image of our Lady of Czestochowa. Bella. outside the Church, the image of the Madonna of the apron (or Cathedral), fresco on the outside of the Church, found during the reconstruction of the Church in the 17th century and protected by a chapel gone completely destroyed in bombing during the second world war. Also the floor of the octagonal chapel was partially saved, and is now protected by a concrete cover.

  • Visited many times before today I came back to this church to (re) see in particular the adoration of the Magi, painted by Camillo Procaccini in 1609, and the coronation of the Virgin, his nephew Ercole Procaccini the younger, remarkable works located both in the sacristy, which I admired briefly but not photograph as "private". With the occasion of course I switched to watching the ancient fresco of the Madonna of the apron "(our Lady of miracles), located outside the remains of the ruined chapel dedicated to her.

  • The special feature of this church is that the Holy Mass is celebrated not only in Italian, also in Polish. But the wonderful surprise in my opinion is given on the outside (on the right side of the façade) from the remains of the chapel which was dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Destroyed in a bombing during the second World War (the history is well described in the cartel alongside), the chapel remain only remnants but, now protected by a sheet of glass, is still exposed the fresco of the Madonna del apron or Our Lady of miracles. A must see because, in addition to the history that lives in floor slabs (still to be restored), was created a very suggestive corner and recollection although.

  • The Church of Santa Maria alla Porta was built in Milan in 1652, on an existing one from 1105. Was designed by architect Francesco Maria Richini and, at his death, was completed by Francesco Borromini, Castles said. The Church of Santa Maria takes its name at the door because it built on the site where Porta Vercellina. It is the parish church of the Archdiocese of Milan and community Chaplaincy of Polish faithful in Milan. Very nice the triangular gable that adorns the Baroque façade. Inside a single nave with an altar and four side chapels adorned with white marble statues. Very nice and interesting to visit.
