Church
San Marco is a church in Milan, northern Italy.HistoryAccording to tradition, the church was dedicated to St. Mark, patron of Venice, after the help given by that city in the war against Frederick Barbarossa in the 12th century. However, the first mention of the church dates from 1254 when the Augustinians built a Gothic style edifice with a nave and two aisles re-using pre-existing constructions. The structure was heavily modified in the Baroque style during the 17th century, when it became the largest church in the city after the Duomo di Milano. In early 1770, the young Mozart resided in the monastery of San Marco for three months and, on May 22, 1874, the first anniversary of the death of the Milanese poet and novelist Alessandro Manzoni was commemorated in the church by the first performance of Verdi's Requiem, written in his honour.Art and architectureThe façade dates from an 1871 restoration by Carlo Maciachini, who kept the marble portal with tympanum, a gallery of small arches, the rose window and three statues of saints attributed to Giovanni di Balduccio or the Master of Viboldone. In the lunette is a mosaic representing the Madonna between Saints, a copy of the original by Angelo Inganni.

  • Pity that this beautiful baroque Church does not enjoy much luceal inside. The same is elegant and unique. It is said that after the Cathedral is one of the most beautiful in Milan. Inside as well as a considerable amount of paintings, does not escape the organ and the particular eighteenth-century Nativity by Francesco Londonio made of painted paper and glued on wooden silhouettes. In the two side chapels can be seen many paintings. Absolutely to visit the surrounding area of the building.

  • The treasures of this church you will find them in the side chapels, especially in two on the right side of the Church. Unfortunately the visibility is limited by low light present. The right transept retains a fresco which, however, is very spoiled. Remarkable two canvases by Legnanino unless I am mistaken. On the façade of note, the website, the only remnant of the ancient Church.

  • Cella's Church in cross-aisle with left and right. Fresco of the Madonna and child painted above the entrance is a beautiful, bright and blue. On stage at what appeared to be a temple, where statues of 6. Aisle, Chapel of the seven features and is decorated with frescoes and altar paintings. Big ones at the entrance right away Chapel frescoes were spared the fading.
