Basilica di San Calimero, Milan

4.3
The Basilica di San Calimero is a church in Milan, northern Italy. Its name refers to Saint Calimerius (died 190 AD), an early bishop of the city. It dates from the 5th century but was almost completely rebuilt in 1882 by the architect Angelo Colla in an attempt to restore it to the "original" medieval structure. What remains of the ancient church include: the 16th century crypt, with a noble frescoed vault by the Fiammenghini; a small fresco with the Madonna and Two Female Saints (15th century, attributed to Cristoforo Moretti) in the apse; a Crucifixion by Il Cerano, and a noteworthy Nativity by Marco d'Oggiono. Other medieval frescoes are in the annexed sacristy. The crypt also houses Calimerius' relics and a pit located in the same place in which the former's bones were found in the water.

  • This basilica in via San Calimero is of ancient origin, built on a place where there was a temple of Apollo, in the 5th century. Restored and ruined in 1882 by the architect Angelo Colla, now comes in neo-Romanesque style with a front almost new, interesting paintings and gold mosaics.

  • In recent months I have gone several times in this beautiful and ancient basilica, which for some time has very convenient hours open daily from 9:30. Via San Calimero-pedestrian-is a quiet and quaint small church and the crypt are even more and also offer valuable works of art as well as important historical records. Finally, it is very convenient to reach it by public transport, including M3, tram 16 and 24 (Cross), bus 94, 65 and 77.

  • Bella asked not far from the duomo. I could only see out. It would have been nice to see her inside.

  • Basilica di San Calimero Church's origine date back to the 5th century.after a disaster whole church renovated in 1882 by architecture Angelo Colla with the medieval architecture.
  • A fascinating hidden little treasure
  • Beautiful and quiet basilica
  • Small beautiful church.
  • Beautiful church. Also notable is the music programming in the same, offering monthly concerts of Chamber music, and vocal ensemble for early music. Very interesting for lovers of early music, is also the "festival of the Ascension" organized for years in may by the Association Noema in this basilica, which sees such professionals perform music from all over Europe.
