  • The archaeological area of the Basilica is divided into 3 "sectors" hypogeum, exterior and lapidary Museum. in all 3 cases illustrative panels explain very well what you visit. All very well prepared and well preserved. A complement to the visit of the Basilica, especially for the more curious and interested in history.

  • When Milan was one of the four capitals of the Roman Empire, arrived from Germany, Trier, Ambrose, another of the capitals. The "forced" to make the Bishop and he did so well that get by emperors lots of benefits for the Christian community. Here we can see the first basilica he built and consecrated in 386. Excavations in the years ' 70 show foundations, bricks, construction materials, funerary cippi of more than 1700 years ago. In the small museum there are exhibits until the 10th century including a cross, rings and the crosier Bishop Arderico (or Ulderico). Outside the apse early medieval tombs, columns and architectural parts of the basilica of Ambrose.

  • Next to the Church, a very interesting area that surprised me positively, also thanks to the volunteer friends of Touring, with several historical artifacts.

  • Beautiful, quite historic church. Much less crowded than the duomo, but possibly richer in history. This is on the Milan Historic Society's self-guided walking tour. Be aware: opening hours are not extensive.
  • It is worth the wait in the long lines for ticket and then to get into or rather around the Cathedral to the roof. A beautiful view of Milano. It is a must if you are in Milano for a few days.
  • This amazing ancient church was built by St. Ambrose, starting from 382. It was originally dedicated to the Apostles, and thus known as Basilica Apostolorum.
  • Precious church that was founded by Ambrose and still preserves Paleochristian (the dome plus some inscriptions), Romanic (the main body) and Renaissance (the so-called Cappella Trivulzio at the entrance) construction phases. From the right arm, entrance to some Roman kilns. In the same arm, tomb of a doctor at the Roman imperial court with inscribed epigrams in Greek and Latin.
  • Beautiful church with some outstanding art.
