Arco della Pace, Milan

(850+ reviews on the web)
Architectural Building
Overlooking the city center stands Arco della Pace, an early 19th-century triumphal arch. The Neoclassical marble structure features statues both on top and carved into the sides depicting major historic events, important battles, classical mythology, and allegories. The historical square is quiet, and the arch perfectly frames the castle in the distance. Walk through the large park, pack a picnic, and relax in the presence of this city landmark. • A must for a walk in the Park sempèione (opposite), relaxation and some Sun, or a drink in the evening.

  • Beautiful arch in a beautiful setting. We learned that the Napoleon had this constructed and had the horses facing France. Some clever Italians who were unimpressed with their new ruler turned the hor...  more »
  • To walk through the premises of corso Sempione always ends with the view of the Arco della pace. Standing on the steps in front of the monument is now customary Milanese to spend a quiet evening in company with a decidedly exclusive and different from usual. One of the symbols of Milan, which makes the city one of the most beautiful in the world. Nightlife!

  • Best thing to do is to first have a look round the Sforszesco Castle and then exit it through the back into the large Sempione Park. From here you can see the arch in the distance. Buy yourself some ice cream at the stall there and then walk all the way down the green to the arch--a beautiful relaxing experience on a nice sunny day; may not be that great on a cloudy or wet day. Chance to take some good photos as you walk up, and finally, once you get up close too. If you don't want to take the direct route, you can wander around the park and get to the arch the long-winded way. I saw a cafe in the park, but there may be more.
  • Pretty place that's away from the craze that is the Duomo and Galleria. Not as big as the Arc of Triumph in Paris but you shouldn't miss this if you're already in Milan. There is a nice area for people to sit and appreciate the arc and quite a few restaurants behind it as well.
  • Beautiful historic arc. Like many other gates, arcs, and castles, has its own history attached to it. One should surely visit it and then proceed on to the park and the castle across!
  • Nice spot for a photo. And a nice place to sit quietly in the sun when the sun comes out.
  • Wonderful gateway at the end or beginning (depends on where you coming from) of the great park. Amazing structure. Great for pictures, relaxing.
