  • After about 30 years, of all completed and never used, and thanks to a protest page on Facebook that has awakened citizen outrage, opens the Museum of Messina, the real one, not the rundown Shack with 4 paintings that we have visited since the middle ages to today. A thrill that doesn't disappoint my expectations. In fact, knowing the corruption, cronyism and mediocrity of JPMorgan loss to Messina, I couldn't expect much worse. Already at the entrance we see a typical wild Mediterranean garden, where children can play with snakes and ticks in this garden there are antique doors don't-know-what, caryatides of I don't know what building and two angular fountains that could also be of Reggio, since everything is left to the imagination of the visitor. Inside in addition to the usual Caravaggio which were for years exposed in the old structure into the new one (which given the waiting time would not even correct to call it new), distributed in two halls, ancient artifacts, including jewelry, busts and sarcophagi of the Romanesque period and Hellenic, a splendid bow of an ancient ship, a rostrum of the crypt of the Church that stood on site and finally the Neptune of Montorsoli , which I could see before dying to a miracle of the web. Little stuff anyway in comparison of what you can see in the back outside, cluttered type dump and seeds buried by vegetation. That being said I would like to express a thought offhand, if a veiled and peaceful protest on the web there has finally returned a minimum of culture paid dearly by the citizens, what we could achieve if we do less veiled and peaceful protest under whose house was paid with the money of citizens to get to this dismal outcome after 30 years?

  • The regional Museum of Messina is really a casket in which are priceless artistic treasures ... suffice it to say that available for visitors we have several paintings by Caravaggio and the statues of Montorsoli...il rest is just as interesting. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

  • We pay 8 € to see little. Probably when it is open it will be quite a museum but today ... There were more employees that exhibits. ... The Green exterior is a forest and the fountain dry. I didn't like not even the Interior lights, but that's a personal opinion that did not count in the evaluation.

  • Hardly worth 8 Euro more like $1.00 and that's being generous
  • Beautiful Museum. The raising of Lazarus by Caravaggio is on show here as well as many other famous works.
  • Eight euros for eight rooms is an absurd price. The exhibition of paintings by Caravaggio is impressive but need more attention to the lighting which creates annoying reflections. Bellissimo il polittico di San Gregorio di Antonello. The limbo where this Museum, between this and the new structure is highly detrimental

  • Beautiful. To visit.

  • 5 star hotel of encouragement for a museum that might offer a good cultural experience, with great names of painting as Antonello da Messina and Caravaggio, and that could tell the story of the lost city, with a rich collection of artifacts, statues and architectural relics of Messina was destroyed by an earthquake in 1908 and remains stuck between an old 19th century spinning mill and a modern Museum closed for 20 years.
