  • Upon completion of the August holidays Messina, as well as the monumental and complex pyramid of Vara persist, other types of "machine" festive, such as galley, transparencies, the illuminations, the fountains and the colossal statues of Mata and Gryphon, called the "Giants", combined with the aggressive form of the camel, "u camiddu". In the days before the procession of 15, large statues were brought to the shoulder in the various districts of the city. According to tradition, the statues depict the mythical ancestors of birth peloritana. Him bruno and bearded, classical features reminiscent of Jupiter Capitolinus, her, Mata, features the buxom likeness of a commoner, "Cabrera", that is, an ancient district, outside the walls, southwest of port. Interesting to note that the predominant figure between the two is that of Mata, adombrandosi therein a preference against women, that we find repeatedly reaffirmed in both the myth that peloritana tradition. During the walk, the earnest Gryphon, who personifies the Eastern component, follows resigned the beautiful Mata. The Giants trailed on wheeled carts are proceeding. As for the Vara, the parade is accompanied by drums, Bugles and the dull sound of "bans" and "ciaramedda". Various actors would improvise short shows to the delight of the onlookers, during the stages of the walk.
