  • Beautiful fountain in Piazza Duomo, next to the Bell Tower. Was made on request of the Senate of Messina by the Florentine sculptor Giovanni Angelo Montorsoli to celebrate the construction of aqueduct of Camaro that supplied the city. The structure is enlivened by mythological figures related to city tradition for Orion, the mythical founder of Messina, which has its head turned to the Southeast, his right arm raised and the left on the shield and the feet the dog Sirius. The three basins, receiving water from 44 mouths, are decorated with scenes in bas-relief with caryatids, newts, cherubs riding dolphins, sea monsters and heads of jellyfish. The bigger Bowl has 4 tanks above that represent the Nile, the Tiber River, the Ebro and Camaro.
