Merano Centro Storico is known for its cozy Christmas markets that fill the area with the smell of mulled wine. The cobble-stoned streets of this year-round spot date back to Roman times. Today, you'll find shops, a spa with a pool, and a promenade along the Passer river. The town's mixed Italian and German heritage inspire the menus of several restaurants. • August 2016. The historic centre of Merano is characterized above all by the long Via dei Portici and the parish church of Saint Nicholas. Via dei Portici connects the parish with Square Piazza del Grano, the latter was once the marketplace. The facades along the arcades feature the distinctive Bay Windows or Bay Windows (typical Tyrolean window). It is said that the arcades of Merano are the longest of the entire Tyrol and South Tyrol. Then there are the three gates. Originally these were 4, but a, Door Ultner no longer exists. Those that remain are: door, door and door Bolzano who pitched roof very and the arms of Austria is certainly the most beautiful of 3 gates.

Where to stay in Merano

Merano offers a wide selection of luxury boutique hotels, small inns, and family-run B&Bs with their own restaurants. To enjoy fresh air and sweeping mountain views, stay at a hunting manor just outside the city. Though pricey, private manor-hotels offer easy access to the area's sports facilities, where you can hike, cycle, fish, golf, or ski. A less expensive alternative is to stay at one of the city's inns, which you can use as base for exploring the surrounding region.
