  • Every time I go to ch Mazara del Vallo (and this is the third time) I never miss to visit the Museum of the Dancing Satyr that the Superintendent wouldn't want you chamasse so but so be it. The entrance and the arrangement of bronze in the small Hall has changed over time, but the wonder that is felt every time in the path of rapprochement between amphoras Phoenician, Punic, Greek, Roman is always the same: a gasp of drunken satyr dancing heart of wine and wild-eyed in precarious balance for its incessant spin on itself is fixed forever in perfect bronze of melted. Maybe even Praxiteles. Stop to admire the statue without haste, girategli around in order to reconstruct the missing parts in your imagination and silently thanked the captain and crew of the "Capitan Ciccio" for having recovered and delivered to us this magnificent work. A movie about 30 minutes tells the story of the find in twice of the satyr and the renovation work to make it accessible to all visitors. The assumptions of the scholars on the date and attribution of the work although conflicting (from the 6th to the 2nd century BC) do not remove the extreme pleasure of visiting.

  • The exhibition is interesting but it is very limited. You can see the satyr sometimes late at night

  • The small museum housed in a beautiful church of 1500, the Church of Sant'Egidio, wonderful sottomla sandstone dome which lies the beautiful bronze statue of the Dancing Faun. Are also exposed other finds come back up from the Strait of Sicily. The Dancing Satyr is, together with bronze statues, the emblem of the submerged heritage of the Mediterranean. The statue of the 4th century BC can be attributed to the school of Praxiteles, was found in two different stages, perhaps the cargo of a wrecked ship in the Strait of Sicily the satyr is depicted in orgiastic Ecstasy mind wheel with the left hand the Goblet of wine and in the right the barrel of tirso adorned with a Ribbon and topped with a pine cone. The flowing suggests the movement of dance which added to the excitement of the drink she carried in a trance, until unconsciousness.  The museum displays other finds from the waters of the Strait of Sicily with a rich selection of transport amphorae of archaic, classical, Hellenistic, Punic, Roman and medieval times.

  • The statue itself is magnificent. A reslly beautiful example of an ancient Greek bronze. Pity there is so little else to see for the price though.
  • Very good bronze statue. The shape is very particular and the story behind that is fascinating. The rest of the museum is composed of a few pieces with not so much value. The entrance fee is 6 euros
  • Beautiful statue that alone is worth a visit! For the rest you watch a movie with the discovery and some exhibits including a metal elephant's foot but now is in Palermo. Very friendly and prepared the keepers!! One of them made us pretty much guide providing exciting news than the dancing satyr and finds. Besides Mazara is a beautiful town with beautiful churches, a little nugget just open like the teatro Garibaldi, and the kashba .... excellent bakeries and don't miss the taste of gambero rosso di Mazara!

  • Small but impressive Museum, several very important findings, but especially the "Dancing Satyr" located in the middle of a large room and is illuminated on all sides that you can admire from every angle!
