  • Easily accessible by car stopping at a large farm or even up to a few meters from the site. At the edge of a ravine a flight of steps leads to the cave recovered, restored and fitted out to the public to show a series of frescoes 7/800teschi at the hands of an unknown "painter of flowers". You can admire the frescoed niches with images of the Apostles, the Virgin and of archangels, while in the side wall are painted episodes of creation and of original sin. For those who visit Matera is a place not to be missed. Mario 48

  • One word ... Spectacular. After visiting a large part of the beautiful churches of Matera, booked (obligatorily) the visit to the crypt of the original sin. The meeting is in a farm, not just on a road passing through, but accessible with the Navigator. From here we start with the van and driving to do the last 2 km. The visit is supplemented by a narrator and the play of light that enhance the splendid frescoes, wonderfully preserved, leaving you speechless. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

  • To admire this show you must reach a cottage just a few kilometres from the Centre of Matera. Li a representative of the foundation that manages the cave, aboard a van accompanies guests in the Murgia. After a couple of flights of stairs you reach this wonder. Presentation quite impressive. The visit is worth the trip to Matera especially lovers rock churches

  • This place was kind of an afterthought on my recent trip but I am glad we finally decided to try to squeeze it in on the way to the airport! It's about 20 minutes outside of Matera and the coordinates they give you in the email are correct, I'm not sure why so many people comment that it's hard to find. We reserved the night before but everything was ready when we arrived first thing in the morning. You drive your car down to the site which is about 700 meters after checking in. It's a group tour but you sit in the cave while the audio guide plays. It really is amazing. We arrived at 0900 for check-in (reservation time was 0930) and were on the road by 10:00. Definitely a must see in the area!
  • Very nicely arranged lightshow to help you see the master paintings of this cave. It's not big and it doesn't take long, but if you are anywhere close to appreciation for art (history), it's well worth a visit.
  • Uncomfortable place to reach and we must also do a short stretch of dirt road maybe drive. In the end though, there is a unique, beautiful, full of history and faith. It also helps to fund maintenance and restoration of the crypt. You have to go and see ... Absolutely

  • Great experience, maybe not cost justified, forbidden to take pictures. I share the concerns of other reviewers about the directions to the place, check in a cottage, road to get completely unpaved. Presentation of the cave very well structured with the help of multimedia tools, also available in other languages.
