  • In a village where the poor conditions of yesteryear are the protagonist, stands the Cathedral of Matera. Upon entering jaw-dropping because of its Majesty and its architecture, rich and refined, completely opposite to what you find throughout the rest of the sassi

  • Majestic facade with beautiful rose window and Bell Tower in three Windows. Large portal with Madonna and three angels with the Archangel Michael, behind the chancel choir of 1453, the altar frontal of the altar of 1539, the stone crib of 1534 and Chapel of the Nunziatella. The patron saint of the city is the Madonna della Bruna with fresco of 1270. The square allows a lovely view of the Sasso Barisano.

  • Dominating the old Sassi quarter, the views from it are dazzling, and the architecture sublime.
  • The last time I visited was being restored but if you find yourself in Sydney you have to visit it by force! There is no place in Matera, Matera is magical and not see at least once in their life should be visited!

  • A harmonious marriage of Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque is what will surprise anyone who enters the Cathedral. Built in 1230, you leave Stratify from different periods and styles, from worship and domination until 2003 when it closed for renovations. Now it's finally reopened for worship but especially to lovers of beauty. Frescoes, decorations and so much aurea luce da dazzle the sight.
