  • In Italy we are fortunate to have so many churches that are artistically equal to many museums. If you pay a visit to the magnificent Cathedral of Matera Black Madonna dated 13th century. Externally, the architecture is Romanesque and the construction material is Tuff. Impressive rose window on the main façade and beautiful sculptures on the side. The Interior is completely different from the outside, made more time is all a stucco and gilding. Magnificent the tables of "ceiling" and the altar. Very nice also the altar of the Black Madonna statue that is carried in procession in May and the fresco of the Madonna and child.

  • Can be easily found by following the many directions. It's been recently updated, so it is particularly slick and care. Abounds in ancient history with its archaeological excavations Interior (the left side of the altar) and with the frescoes of 1000 about (prior to the school of Giotto). The ceiling, painted on wood, with incredibly perspective effect. No entrance fee, but the availability of guides in language. Recommend a visit for a break among the many kilometres necessary to see the stones.

  • Dominating the old Sassi quarter, the views from it are dazzling, and the architecture sublime.
  • The last time I visited was being restored but if you find yourself in Sydney you have to visit it by force! There is no place in Matera, Matera is magical and not see at least once in their life should be visited!

  • A harmonious marriage of Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque is what will surprise anyone who enters the Cathedral. Built in 1230, you leave Stratify from different periods and styles, from worship and domination until 2003 when it closed for renovations. Now it's finally reopened for worship but especially to lovers of beauty. Frescoes, decorations and so much aurea luce da dazzle the sight.
