  • Just arrived in Salento in the charming village of Marittima, 4 kilometres from Castro Marina, as usual the next morning I went to the library on the main street to buy the newspaper. Only that the newspaper was gone and in its place an Inn proposed "home cooking" because with the cheerful ease bureaucratic (maybe there was in big cities!) "the newspaper has moved into the room in front" – they told me. " And the Baker who was there? " "It's gone beyond 300 metres". I'm going over in the afternoon and I saw that on the porch made from three simple reeds is put the word "Osteria La Vecchia" and in front of a billboard on which are written by hand the specials and relative prices. The tables were quietly playing cards that seniors with satisfaction have found another location where to pass the time. In fact the worldliness paesana is all here and the two gangs of men who gather each afternoon in the bar of the sidewalk sidewalk bar left or right of the course. I'm intrigued and at night we wanted to try the restaurant but a guy we rejected because it "places are all busy" despite being relatively soon. In fact the elderly locals were gone home giving place to the tourists who had already filled all the wooden tables. A woman, however, has left the kitchen and with great location and found the solution for us with a small table and chairs. So we can see that management is authentically family: she who assisted in the kitchen during meals by a boy and a man (perhaps son and husband) allowing us, without sophistry Salento cuisine culinary eating cooked at the time: an appetizer of steamed vegetables (which have a flag of Salento) and excellent French fries with the skin while as main dishes my friend took a remarkable cod and fried mullet and I a large plate of homemade cavatelli with seafood. With a cold beer, a bottle of mineral water and one coffee price was miraculous: 34 euros for two people. How not to go there often? I add that in general this is the formula of success of Salento: in a context of great scenic beauty and cultural offer is always respectful of the environment and the tourist prices.
