  • Definitely a historical and cultural point of view Park is worth a visit, unfortunately lies in almost total neglect with weeds scattered everywhere and a mosaic covered inadequately. Also the beautiful Tower from where you can admire a beautiful landscape.

The city was built on the Summit and slopes of a promontory bought from Focei to Enotri, around the 5th century BC the city was already well known for the prosperous trade relations and Government policy. ELEA also assumed considerable cultural importance thanks to its philosophical school-Socratic trend known as the Eleatic school, which was founded by Parmenides and carried forward by the student Zeno. With Rome, instead, Elea had great relationships, taking care to provide ships for the Punic Wars over centuries III 1st and 2nd b.c. In 88 BC Elea was ascribed to the tribe Romilia, becoming even Roman municipality under the name Velia due to the progressive silting of ports and the construction, begun in 132 BC, the Via Popilia which ran functions linking Rome with the South of the peninsula by cutting out a progressive town caused Velia, isolation and impoverishment. Roughly at the end of the Imperial period the last inhabitants had no other solution than to take refuge in the upper part of the Acropolis to escape the progressive advancement of marshy ground at the end of the middle ages, in 1420, became a fief of the Sanseverino
