Monte Capanne, Marciana

(4.6/5 based on 460+ reviews on the web)
Ascend the tallest mountain on Elba Island, Monte Capanne, to take in views of mainland Italy and the surrounding islands. Walk up the wooded mountain or take a vertigo-inducing cable car to the 1,019 m (3,343 ft) summit. The cable car consists of small standing-room-only "baskets," while the hiking trail leads through chestnut trees and then requires a scramble over boulders before the top. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Marciana holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Monte Capanne and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • We climbed the mountain walk to the ridge from the village of Pomonte. Walk hard enough but the view is worth it all. You can see the sea on three sides, the Italian coast, Corsica and almost all the islands of the Tuscan archipelago.

  • If you are staying more than one day on Elba, or if you have a car, mount Capanne is an attraction not to be missed! From the highest point, you can see the island of Elba, which looks like miniature ... To visit possibly on a clear and sunny day, fortunately, in addition to these conditions, I was lucky enough to go there in mid-July 2016, a.m. (10.30) and there was little people. When I got to the top, you could see the area of Portoferraio, where we had bed and breakfast, and I couldn't believe it, a really nice feeling! For lovers of hiking, you can get there on foot, with a nice walk, for those who do not want, and also loves a little thrill (you are suspended for ten minutes on a cage ...) you can get there by cable car costs 18 € per person; the cable car does not stop just at the tip, then to get to the top, you must still walk another 5 minutes, walking still enjoyable, saw the view that opens to the view. Council of summer, especially if you can get there by cable car, slather on the sunscreen before boarding, because the sunlight is!

  • for this location is essential to choose a beautiful cloudless sky. The mountain is accessed via cableway, the spectacle is assured, from the top you can admire the beauty of the island

  • Great experience, great view, remember and want to come back.
  • Is simply being on Elba. The ride with the lift for € 18 worth. Views of the Monte Capanne is phenomenal, with good visible to correct looking. The views of large parts of the island's great... From the lift up to the Summit, it is only a short climb of which easily for all possible is.
