Time seems to stand still at Castello Scaligero, a medieval structure with winding battlements and a tower overlooking Lake Garda. It is believed that a fortification of some sort has existed on this site since as early as the fifth century, but most of the structures visible today were added in the 13th century by the della Scala family, rulers of Verona. During that time the structure was fortified and became an important part of the region’s defensive system. Since 1902 the castle has been a national monument, and today it contains a small museum on the natural history of Lake Garda. Climb the tower for sweeping views of the lake and the town, but be careful of the clock bell, which chimes earsplittingly on the hour. Guided tours can be pre-booked by telephone. • The Castello is a part of history and well maintained. It is is very interesting and up on the towers has magnificent views.
  • Beautiful hidden lakeside gem. The view from atop is well worth the flight of stairs you climb.
  • Panoramic views from the tower is the best part, some awkward steps so elderly beware.
  • Beautiful place! Stunning views
  • The castle is a great place to visit, there is a nice mini museum and lots to see, especially when you climb to the top and you can see a large part of the lake.
  • What a marvelous place in the Tuscany Region of Italy. @-3 winery stores that you can buy really good local wine at good prices. Lots of nice restaurants also. Very beautiful scenery.
