  • Those who visit this region must face the balcony of at least one of its ancient theatres. To us this opportunity has given Paul Langille, Director of the Hermitage Academy, which made us enjoy the atmosphere of this beautiful 18th-century Italian theater designed by Antonio Galli and funded by the city nobility. It is not difficult to imagine the cross section of 18th-century society that rage was attending the theater: the balconies to satchel bags, occupied by the funders of the project for shine and prestige had turned to the most innovative designer of the moment, the stalls, tilted (the 19th century), packed with out-of-towners and nobility of the nearby countryside, and lobbies on the fourth order (remodelled in the nineteenth century) occupied by merchants and artisans. All of them enjoy the melodrama of the moment! If you have time go see the Museum of carriages other occasion to enter the wonders of 18th century Macerata.

It is usually open in the morning but if you find the doors open in the afternoon, the keepers will be glad to let you come in and take a peek.

  • Piccolo teatro in the historical centre of Macerata. Cozy and elegant at the same time, the Lauro Rossi Theatre is ideal for boring meetings as for energetic choral concerts.
